By becoming dependent on gas supplies from Russia, we are strengthening our political and economic sovereignty – Jarosław Kaczyński, PiS president, wrote in a letter read out on Friday in the gas station in Świnoujście. He added that gas from the USA is almost one third cheaper than Russian gas.
Kaczyński’s letter was read by the Government Plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure Piotr Naimski during the official, ceremonial reception in Świnoujście of the first LNG cargo delivered from the USA under long-term contracts with Cheniere. As explained by Naimski, the letter is addressed to the president of PGNiG Piotr Woźniak.
The implementation of this contract is a milestone in the sphere of ensuring energy security for Poland through the diversification of suppliers and import directions. By becoming dependent on supplies from Russia, we strengthen our political and economic sovereignty. It must be emphasized here that the price of gas imported from America, after taking into account all costs related to its processing and transport, is almost one third lower than the price of Russian gas imported by Poland. In a word, it is becoming safer and cheaper.
On Friday, the first LNG load from a US supplier under long-term contracts is picked up at the gas station in Świnoujście. The gas supplier, based on the 24-year agreement signed in November 2018, is Cheniere. The contract is DES (Delivery Ex Ship) – a good, in this case LNG is considered delivered when it is made available to the buyer at the designated port on board the ship.
In addition to Cheniere, PGNiG has contracts for the supply of American LNG with Venture Global and Centrica. Part of the purchase portfolio has the DES formula, and the FOB part (Free On Board) – the buyer, after loading on the ship, can send the goods to any place and recipient. The Polish company also receives gas under a long-term contract with Qatargas.
